After a 2-year break due to Covid, Falmouth Rotary Club’s popular Run Mawnan event
was back on Sunday on a perfect September day. Almost 200 runners of all ages
gathered in the sunshine for the 3 different routes through the village and it was the
youngsters who took the lead in the 5k race with two of the top three places being taken
by under 18s.
17-year-old Llewin Head of Mile High Running Club crossed the line first winning Bed &
Breakfast at Hotel Meudon; followed closely by 15-year-old Dylan Stevens in 2nd place
and Jack Nancarrow in 3rd, both from Newquay & Par Running Club. The first female
home on the 5k was Anna Harrold, and 8-year-old Ted Hopwood took the prize for the
youngest competitor, flying round the 5k course in 24:01.
Andrew Martin of Mile High Running Club and Emma Paull from Hayle Runners were the
first male and female to cross the line in the 10k race, both winning Dinner, Bed &
Breakfast for two at the Budock Vean Hotel.
The 1-mile children’s fun run was as popular as ever with almost 100 primary school
aged children sprinting round the village in a race to the finish. The winner was 8-year-old
Finlay Stevenson, followed closely by Ed Greville-Smith and Marley Wood. The first girl
across the line was 11-year-old Willow Barnes followed by Matilda Pascoe and Elizabeth
Hipwell.
Rotarian Rod Allday, Chairman of the Run Mawnan committee, said “It’s great to be
back after a 2-year break and to see so many people enjoying themselves in the
sunshine. We’re really grateful to all the local businesses who have supported us
by providing some great prizes, and to all the volunteers who marshal the course
and help in the event field.” Rod also thanked Cath Horton who is stepping down from the organising committee, for all her hard work co-ordinating the event over the past 10 years.

Kimberley’s Independent Estate Agents have once again signed up as the main sponsor of Run Mawnan, which will take place this year on Sunday 25th September after a two-year break due to Covid-19. Their support will enable Falmouth Rotary Club, who organise the event, to raise as much money as possible for local charities.

At the recent cheque presentation, company owner Steve Kimberley said “We are delighted to support the cost of staging this popular community event. It’s always great to see so many people of all ages taking part and having fun on the day, and we are proud to continue our involvement.”

Rod Allday, Chairman of the Run Mawnan Committee, added ‘‘It’s great to be back again this year after a two-year break and we’re really grateful to Kimberley’s for their continued support to help to cover some of our core costs. We are hoping that this year’s event will be bigger and better than ever and encourage people to enter as soon as possible by visiting our website at http://www.mawnanfunrun.org.uk”

The run starts and finishes in Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith and there are 3 races to suit all abilities: 10k, 5k and a 1-mile fun run aimed at children under 12. As always there are lots of excellent prizes on offer for the winners of the races, with the Budock Vean and Hotel Meudon donating dinner bed and breakfast for the first male and first female home in the 10k and 5k races. All competitors who pre-enter will receive a medal and a goody bag and there will be plenty to keep spectators entertained on the day with fun and games for all the family, including sideshows, a raffle, food and licensed bar.

HOTELS JOIN FORCES TO SUPPORT RUN MAWNAN

After a Covid-enforced two-year break, Run Mawnan is back and the organising committee is hoping that it will be bigger and better than ever. The event will take place on Sunday 25th September and two local hotels have joined forces to donate some impressive prizes for the first runners across the line.

The Budock Vean Hotel and Hotel Meudon have been keen supporters of this annual community event for many years and, once again both hotels are offering Dinner, Bed & Breakfast for two people to the winning men and women in the 10k and 5k races. The event, which is organised by Falmouth Rotary Club, attracted almost 250 participants when it was last held in 2019 and has raised many thousands of pounds for local charities and good causes since its inception.

At the recent launch of the event, Martin Barlow, Managing Director of the Budock Vean Hotel said “We are delighted that Run Mawnan will be taking place again this year and are pleased to support such a great local event”. Sam Banks from Hotel Meudon added “Although the hotel is under new ownership since the last event, we are proud to offer our support and continue the hotel’s association with Run Mawnan.”

Rod Allday, Chairman of Run Mawnan Committee, said ‘‘We’re really grateful to these local businesses for their ongoing support and we hope that by offering such attractive prizes we will encourage plenty of runners to take part and make this our most successful event yet”

Run Mawnan isn’t just for the super-fit though, and the committee are keen to encourage people of all shapes, sizes and abilities to take part, either running or walking the 5km or 10km distances. There really is something for everyone, including a 1-mile fun run aimed at primary school-aged children.

The event starts and finishes in Carwinion Playing Field in Mawnan Smith and all competitors who pre-enter will receive a medal and a goody bag. There will also be plenty to keep spectators entertained on the day with fun and games for all the family, including sideshows, a raffle, food and a licensed bar.

Online entry is now open at www.runmawnan.org.uk/entries and closes at midnight on Saturday 17th September.

WE ARE PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THAT RUN MAWNAN 2022 WILL TAKE PLACE ON SUNDAY 25TH SEPTEMBER

Entries will open on 1 July 2022

24 June 2021

IT IS WITH GREAT REGRET THAT WE HAVE DECIDED TO CANCEL RUN MAWNAN THIS YEAR.

We had been hopeful of being able to stage the event at the end of September but the delay to the removal of Covid restrictions until mid-July and the current situation of increasing infections leaves us insufficient time to be able to plan for the event. We are aware that there are many runners out there who are keen to compete in 5k or 10k events after such a long enforced break and we are sorry that we have to disappoint you.

We will be back in September 2022!

COVID-19 VIRUS

It is with great regret that the organising committee has decided that it will not be possible to stage this year’s event in a Covid-19 safe manner. We had been hoping that it would be possible but it is likely that some form of social distancing will still be required and, in common with the organisers of other running events in September, we have decided that such conditions preclude the staging of the event.

However, members of the committee intend to go for 5k or 10k runs on the day (observing any distancing rules) and we encourage others to do likewise – including children fun running – and upload their pictures to the event’s Facebook page.
